Brief Summary Blood Cartel by Nicholas Woode-Smith

Blood Cartel continues the tale of Kat, our heroine. The story begins in the courtroom, deliberating on the slaying of Kat’s human antagonist during the first book. And while the first book was more action oriented, the courtroom is a good metaphor for Kat’s journey within Blood Cartel. A bit more thought over action, a bit more exploration into character, and perhaps a bit more frustration (at least for this reader). I will do my best to add my thoughts without spoilers.World building: Once again a strong point within. We see a continuation on the first book that seems true and well thought out.Characters: We finally see why Duer and Andy were introduced in the first book, but seemed to have little to contribute. Both certainly play a role within. Drake also returns, but unfortunately remains a bit two dimensional. Drake plays his part well, but we don’t get much more than the supporting hero. Parnish really shines through Blood Cartel however, as he continues to develop his craft. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. Kat has me a bit conflicted. Her internal struggle seems to revolve around the slaying of the first book’s antagonist, and her battle to overcome seeing the humanity in monsters she finds at the other side of her swords. I plan on giving Blood Cartel a second read, but this conflict bothers me coming from the hardened monster hunter of the first book.
