A Whisper of Sorrows written by JD Kirk which was published in June 5, 2020. You can read this before A Whisper of Sorrows PDF EPUB full Download at the bottom. As part of DCI Logan’s backstory, he threw a sadistic pedophile off the top of the parking garage. Logan has never been convinced throughout the series that Owen Petrie was the brain damaged invalid the world believed he was. Logan was proven right when Petrie escapes his captivity in the beginning of the novel. Now Petrie is out and is changing the rules of the “game” he plays with Logan. Normally, I hate crime novels where the cop’s family members are in danger. It’s a tired trope that’s usually unbelievable. The trope works in this novel because the villain has a personal vendetta against Logan based on Logan nearly killing him. Petrie’s villainy is somewhat unbelievable though. I can understand why some people were put off by the coincidences which allowed Petrie to be the ultimate supervillain. What put me off was the number of victims and hostages Petrie managed to accrue. Despite this, the suspense made the story fun to read and I finished the last 75% in one sitting. My only other issue is that I wished the denouement went more into what happened to everyone in the end.

Brief Summary of the Book

DCI Samuel Grant—Snecky to pretty much everyone who knew him—had been stationed in Inverness until Logan had requested a transfer earlier in the year. Snecky had been quick to jump on it, believing he was destined for the Central Belt Big Time, despite having predominantly attained his rank by
showing up often enough, as opposed to through any sort of actual aptitude. He looked thinner than he had when Logan had last crossed paths with him. It had been nine or ten months since then, but Snecky had lost some of the excess weight he was carrying, and his already-receding hairline had started to beat
an even hastier retreat. The weight-loss didn’t suit him. It made him look ill and gaunt. There was a haunted look to him, too, like he was screaming behind the eyes, and Logan felt a pang of guilt for throwing the poor bugger into the lion’s den of his old stomping ground.
