It is SO good that I devoured it in less than a day – actually, in a mere few hours. There is so much to be curious about, little mysteries throughout the book. McFadden’s seamless writing grabs the readers’ attention and makes the reader need to know what is going to happen. I read this book so closely because I was trying to figure out the twist(s). I didn’t get one of them! When they were revealed, I was so mad at myself that I didn’t get them! I appreciated the fact that McFadden made a point to have the physician explain that the people were humans just like him and Amy, who happen to have their diagnosis – they aren’t their diagnosis. She really humanizes the patient and makes any reader that may be suffering from mental illness feel better about being open about it. I also loved the fact that this took place over the course of one night. It made it feel more authentic. This is absolutely a must read! Dare I say this is McFadden’s best book to date.

Brief Summary of the Book

In typical Freida fashion, this book reels you in from the very beginning. Amy is a medical student who has to do a rotation on the psych floor, Ward D. She is hesitant due to having her childhood best friend have mental issues while they were growing up. Being locked in to the ward for the night isn’t exactly comforting to Amy, she is just trying to survive the night. Things go from bad to worse as the night goes on. She doesn’t know who she can trust, after all – everyone on that floor is crazy, or so she thinks.
