I can liken the way this novel pulled me in immediately to The Irin Chronicles, but that’s it. That’s as far as the comparison goes. The world of Ethiopia and the state of the world is so richly described as I said, I loved it. Our heroine, Narine is a brave time traveler; she’s a high-level time traveler, and it’s what her family expects. She has many conflicting emotions throughout this book, and you come to see why they are deserved.The Thirteenth Month laid a beautiful groundwork for what I dearly hope is many books to come exploring the mage society of the Seba Segal. We have only scratched the surface of the characters we have already come to love and question so far. There are plots afoot, those trying to change the timeline and break all the rules of time travel. Narine and friends are at the center, with the most powerful one of all. And yes, we were left with a cliffhanger. Books this complex cannot be written quickly; they take time, preparation, and so much imagination.
