My major complaint is the wrapping up of the Descolada storyline. Which was incredibly anticlimatic and if that were the only thing that this book had to offer, this would be a 1-star review. Even after reading OSC’s admittedly sensible explanation for his choices regarding the plot of this book, I can only forgive him so much for the literal 3-book-long buildup of the Descolada story, considering the way it “ended”. In the afterword he explains this at some length, but his explanation basically amounts to “I had no idea what I was doing when I started this plot point, and I wasn’t creative enough to do anything really good with it, so I just kind of had to dismiss it and write about other stuff. You know, for the fans.” Like, seriously man? And really, if your main desire is to discover the origins of the Descolada and find out about who created it, you might as well save yourself the $15 and skip this book.
