Ohhh, I LOVED this darker, mafia based Beauty and the Beast reimagining. The first chapter set 10 years ago was so heartbreaking right off the bat. Then it flashes forward and picks up not long after Brutal Prince leaves off. The fallout from the events of Brutal Prince comes into play, and Nessa Griffin finds herself kidnapped by the boss of the Polish mafia, Miko. She’s the youngest sister of Callum, and Miko takes her for revenge on him. For me, this was a little darker and more serious than Brutal Prince. If you’re looking for playful banter and the fun push and pull that Cal and Aida had, this isn’t it.I wasn’t sure I was going to relate to Nessa at all. Pampered, virginal, naive 19 year olds are very much not where I’m at in my life or in my reading journey, haha. Then the dancing came into play, and that resonated a whole lot with me since I danced ballet, etc for most of my growing up all through college. The more I learned about her, and how clever she could be, the more I loved her. She has a spine of steel when push comes to shove in her own way, and being in this situation shows her that. The way she grows up and gets a much better sense of who she is was fantastic.
