Soaking wet and almost broken, Elena seeks out her best friend for help. Due to her abusive and controlling ex, she was forced to ghost her best friend for a few years. Finally free from his control, she is determined to get her life back. The fly in the ointment is her friend Josie’s brother, Jasper. She is certain that he hates her! Slowly she starts to heal yet remains ever vigilant of her ex who seems to always know where she is. She also starts forming a bond with little Lily, Josie’s niece. Her quest to find a job proves difficult and, add to that, her ex seems to pop up when she least expects him. One such occasion finds him trying to force her into his car. Fortunately Jasper is nearby and intervenes! The story has a really nice progression with misunderstandings being clarified and old feelings being discussed. Then there is drama woven in as the ex is stepping up his game on trying to get his hands on Elena. The climax is not unexpected and I found myself gripping the edge of my chair! Very well rounded book and worth a second read!
