Monica Murphy has done the unthinkable and the unimaginable by redeeming Sylvie Lancaster. I was beyond curious and anxious to see how she would pull it off and holy shit she did it!! I admit it, I LOVE Sylvie and I’m ranking her as my favorite Lancaster. I’m so stunned and amazed as Promises We Meant To Keep is phenomenal. Sylvie is Whit Lancaster’s sister and based upon the deceitful and awful things she did in his book, Things We Meant To Say (But Never Did), I hated her with a passion. Given the lies she told along with her hurtful and manipulative behavior, she literally was on my list of the top five most hated female villains. However, in this book, Monica Murphy does brilliant job with humanizing Sylvie to the point where her pain felt realistic. There were times I felt so sorry for her and I wanted to give her a comforting hug.In the prologue, Monica Murphy gives us a glimpse of Sylvie’s past and after that, I was consumed with the addictive storyline. Sylvie is incredibly flawed, she’s broken and she’s mentally and emotionally damaged. I anticipated that her story was going to be intense, deep and heartbreaking.
