This story was very very sweet with some serious talk and lots of love. Roo’s been in love with his best friend since he realized he was into guys. And 5 years apart changed nothing. He comes to tell Tanner and hopes for a miracle that his straight best friend might feel the same way. Tanner loves Roo. He always did. As a best friend. As someone he cares about. Someone he can’t live without. Someone who he wants to give everything. But he’s not in love with him, despite the whole town saying he is. He’s oblivious.
Their reunion, their getting used to each other again and the massive realisations they have are very sweet. I really loved that the story also focused on their background and challanges. Especially Roo’s epilepsy. It was something that defined him as a kid and a teenager. He has lots of horrible memories of Sunbury where his illness was the worst. He doesn’t want to stay.. but Tanner’s here. Tanner is a golden boy, a kind, helpful man who wants to be a firefighter and help people. His dyslexia makes that impossible without asking for help and showing his vulnaribilities himself. And also… he wants Roo to stay for good. But how should he convince him?
