I’m usually more of a straightforward military sci-fi action kind of guy, so I went out on a limb reading this with my Kindle Unlimited subscription. It’s a choice I’m glad I made. The premise is unique, at least as far as I’m concerned. The Rangers are all well-written characters that help to ground the fantastical elements of the story, which weave together beautifully. The main character is a perfect vessel as the main protagonist. PFC Walker, or Talker as the others call him, is a linguist assigned to this near-suicidal mission. His knowledge and importance to the Rangers allows the reader to learn pertinent information and be part of all the action from a logical, in-world point of view.
