I thought Diamond Dogs could have been expanded into a novel-length story. The Blood Spire was a well-created concept, moderately disturbing, and as with much of reynold’s work (I think his aliens are the MOST alien in any SF I have read), convincingly alien. I still find my self wondering how small the doors would have gotten, or what indeed might have been at the top? I can only assume something sufficiently sadistic given everything else that was shown. I did have some trouble believing in how driven some characters (besides Roland, obviously) were in pushing onward despite what had been seen even a little-ways in.Turquoise Sky involves a human colony on a pattern juggler planet and some issues they have when a starship comes in-system with visitors. This was enjoyable and well-written, but didn’t draw me in that much – it was more a suspense/action story.
