It’s been horrible. Every book I’ve opened, I just couldn’t get it to hold my interest, but then J. Marie mercifully heard my pleas and gave me Carnal Vows. We got a sneak peek of Niko and Emilia in Pure Temptation, and I just knew we were in for a ride. Damaged, gruff bad boys are my jam, and she does them so well! Niko works for the mafia, so you already know there are some issues there but shoo we does he make those issues look good! He doesn’t give a flying F what anyone thinks about him and is a self-proclaimed bachelor for life. That is until his boss and longtime confidant comes to him with a proposition about his daughter. An arranged marriage for her safety and it would also cement him within the “family”. Too good to pass up right? And this, my friends, is where we get down to the nitty-gritty. They both fight this arrangement at first because let’s be real, Emilia is no wilting flower, and the angst is a beautiful thing to watch. There are also so many side characters that I just must know more about. Antonio and Vic being the top of that list. There is a lot going on with those two and I can’t wait to see how their stories play out. Give me all the love, drama, heartache, and death! Yes, that might make me sound a little unhinged, but this is why I read. I want to get lost in these worlds. I want to be excited and eagerly anticipate their next move. I want to be so caught up in their lives that I temporarily forget about my own and with Carnal Vows, J. Marie accomplished just that.

Brief Summary of the Book

Jordan Marie understood the assignment. She delivered a hot story full of steam and angst for buildup. Niko is a self proclaimed bachelor who is in the mafia. He’s also as alpha as they come. Emilia is a strong minded alpha female who knows how to take up for herself. We get a taste of the fire that these two are generating. It’s a marriage of convenience for Emilia’s protection and to cement Niko’s place in the mafia. This story is told in different points of view with no cheating. First came a novella to give us just a wee taste of the Kingdom of Sin. It sets you up for the real party that is about to start. Carnal Vows is an intense ride that spans a lifetime of Emelia and Nico. We get treated to their whole history together and how their arrangement comes about. Needless to say Nico is in for a rude awakening if he thinks his life with Emelia will be smooth sailing with no push back from the mafia princess. Emelia is more than just a pretty face and whether she wants to agree or not Nico is the ine man who from the get go has made her heart race. With the same age gap as her parents is fate and the universe trying to give them a sign? Arranged or no it is clear that there is a fiery attraction between the pair and it is only a matter of time before they fall prey to their instincts and give into their carnal desires. But fate can be ficle! Just when Emelia is trying to come to terms with letting Nico in for good, tragedy strikes and Emelia is now fighting for the man she loves.
