Bloomsbury Girls Book Review

” Bloomsbury Girls ” is a good book that you can read online or download to read it later. Before starting the reading or downloading, here is the summary of the book that you can read. Bloomsbury Books is an old-fashioned new and rare book store that has persisted and resisted change for a hundred years, run by men and guided by the general manager’s unbreakable fifty-one rules. But in 1950, the world is changing, especially the world of books and publishing, and at Bloomsbury Books, the girls in the shop have plans: Vivien Lowry: Single since her aristocratic fiance was killed in action during World War II, the brilliant and stylish Vivien has a long list of grievances–most of them well justified and the biggest of which is Alec McDonough, the Head of Fiction. Grace Perkins: Married with two sons, she’s been working to support the family following her husband’s breakdown in the aftermath of the war. Torn between duty to her family and dreams of her own.Bloomsbury Girls by Natalie Jenner

Brief Summary Bloomsbury Girls by Natalie Jenner

Bottomline: This is a charming and interesting story. The setting in a long-established bookstore in London and the early 1950’s postwar time frame add interest, but it is the characters that will make you want to sit and read. The main characters all work in the bookstore. The focus is on three women, Grace, Vivien, and Evie. Each of them has different talents and each of them has different reasons for working in at Bloomsbury Bookstore, but they share the same status and limitations as women. The women are surrounded by well-defined supporting characters. The supporting characters include the men associated with the bookstore and women who are customers, allies, and sometimes celebrities. It is fun to have writers Daphne DuMaurier and Samuel Beckett show up in the narrative at key times. The book is a very pleasant read. There are tensions and complications, but the overall tone of the book is not stressful. The writing is good, and the pacing is steady. Because the narrative is always moving forward, the pages turn quickly. I purchased this book on a Kindle deal so the ratio of price to entertainment value was very good.
