I started reading the Wyrd Blood series because I enjoyed Donna Augustine’s Xest books so much. The idea for this series is good, but the execution is lacking. The main characters are unnecessarily bull-headed to the point of defying any kind of realism when it comes to interpersonal relationships. It kind of dragged in the way a bad teen soap opera does. Some areas were sloppily written, missing important details so I’d have to read passages over a few times to try and figure out what was happening. The ending was super short and anti-climactic. She’d built a really rich environment full of interesting characters that I felt was leading to something really big at the end, but it just fizzled out. I have the feeling that she got tired of writing the story and didn’t put much thought into the conclusion because she just wanted to be done with it. There were a bunch of loose ends that weren’t really addressed.
