This book had me hooked from the first page — there are so few fantasy stories about IT people, and the moment I saw the PIC-NIC, I knew I would like this book.As far as fantasy books go, this urban fantasy story isn’t high-stakes and high-adventure. Instead, it feels more like an alternate supernatural version of a depiction of British country life, full of both magic and small village shenanigans. Together, these elements make the story feel real and the characters very relatable and engaging. The plot feels almost organic around their actual lives, and, while it isn’t enthralling and didn’t keep on the edge of my seat, it had an almost soothing quality. It didn’t need high stakes to be really good.
