Brief Summary With a Mind to Kill by Anthony Horowitz

Like his two previous outings, Anthony Horowitz does an excellent job of getting the reader back into the world originally created by Ian Fleming. Bond feels the same and the pacing, descriptions, and travelogue all seem like part of the same literary world. Even better, Horowitz’s plots are every bit as good as Fleming at his best. (I think this is supposed to be his last Bond book, but I would really enjoy reading a sequel.)This book specifically picks up the series’ storyline after the Man with the Golden Gun. Bond is sent back as a triple-agent to ferret out a new rogue organization that is attempting to seize power in Russia. Though it feels cliché to write it, this really feels like OO7’s most dangerous mission. This is pointed out towards the beginning, but really strikes home once he’s in the thick of it. The book also serves as a satisfying bookend to the arc Fleming started in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
