Tiny Dancer Book Review

” Tiny Dancer” is a good book that you can read online or download to read it later. Before starting the reading or downloading, here is the summary of the book that you can read.

All her life, Siena has dreamed of being a ballerina. Her love of movement and dedication to the craft earned her a spot at the School of American Ballet, with hopes of becoming a member of George Balanchine’s world-famous New York City Ballet company. Siena has worked hard for many years to be a professional ballet dancer, but injury and doubt are starting to take their toll. Maybe it’s time to look beyond the world of dance—but Siena’s whole identity has been shaped by ballet. When you have spent your entire life working toward something, how do you figure out what comes next? And how do you figure out who you are without the thing that defined you? This is a moving and beautifully drawn memoir of a dancer struggling to find her next step—and a young woman finding her true footing in the world.Tiny Dancer by Siena Cherson Siegel

Brief Summary Tiny Dancer by Siena Cherson Siegel

We each read it cover to cover in one sitting, couldn’t put it down, had to know what would happen in the end. We had previously read “To Dance,” by the same author and illustrator, and my daughter actually re-read the first book countless times, it was one of her most favorite graphic novels. My daughter is not a dancer, but she was inspired by “To Dance” to try ballet. After a year, she decided it wasn’t for her, but “To Dance” had brought the whole realm of ballet into her consciousness. With “Tiny Dancer,” so much more is happening than just a sequel, it’s actually more like the entire background to the first book, so it stands completely on its own. What I loved about “Tiny Dancer” was that it is about so much more than ballet, it’s about what happens when you spend your whole life aiming towards a dream, a vision, and then realize that you have to move past that initial goal into what is next for your life. It’s very moving and relevant for older children and adults, because we each learn how to reinvent ourselves multiple times, and how to deal with the crushing disappointments when things don’t turn out the way we were sure they would. My daughter said, “I wish this book would keep going, I wish it were a whole series.” When I asked why, she said, “I want to know what happens next in her life.” Thank you Siena Siegel for sharing your story, and thank you Mark for the enchanting drawings that bring the story to life. My favorite is the “ghost” dancer, that I interpreted in part as the ghost of our dreams that haunts us when we can no longer carry on the way we once had, and we know it but can’t let go yet. I also love the way the images we have of ourselves are blown up in caricature, the fun-house mirror version of how we see ourselves sometimes.
