I’ll start by saying that ‘A king so cold’ and ‘The Stray Prince’ are high on my list of favorite duology. I have read them many times. I think with the popularity of ‘The Savage and the Swan,’ Ella set out to create what feels like a polished, well rounded romance novel that has one of the best written love/lust/chemistry tales I have read. I am constantly in search of breathtaking angst filled stories that make your heart feel the emotions with the characters – this novel delivered for sure! The steam was very much present and important to the plot – it made this book feel innocent even in the many intimate scenes that transpired, because it did seem to add to the bond between characters and further the plot – but I may also be biased since I enjoy well written scenes like those Ella delivers every time. The female protagonist was strong, level headed and grieving. For some reason, despite cheating being a major trigger for me, the softness with which this book dealt with Astra’s choices in the first leg of the story, lent itself to compassion and no judgement from me as a reader. This may vary of course from person to person.
