It was the murder of her husband and her own beating and gang rape by her husband’s murderers who changed the course of her life. She had a breakdown after the rape and withdrew as an ADA. A dark time. After reinventing herself as an investigator, primarily to find justice for her husband’s death, she then agrees to help Jack, who has just been handed a sensational case where a confessed killer is recanting. Jack is seeking justice for the widow and daughters of the murdered man, one of whom is now being dragged back into the spotlight as a suspect. Jack is compromised by a past relationship with the widow. There are many unexpected twists and turns and while nothing seems totally out of the realm of possibility, the underlying premise does somewhat unravel at the end due to a technical difficulty. Also, Jack and Finley have a loose relationship with truth and staying within legal bounds. Finley gives herself a pass for this as a result of the murder/rape. She says she’s no longer “nice” but dark.
