THE HACIENDA, by Isabel Canas, is the first novel I’ve read by this author. I really enjoyed the writing style; it flowed well, without unnecessary info dumps, excess repetitions (those really annoy me), and moved along at a solid pace. The haunting was genuinely interesting to me. Even if I had a suspicion as to the one behind it early on, this didn’t detract from the rest of the story at all, which is a testament to the writing style.I enjoyed the characterization greatly here! Even those that we only see for a short period of time felt necessary to the story, and others were fully fleshed out. The main character had complex emotions that I could understand considering her circumstances. Her decisions made sense, which counts for a lot when reading a novel of this type. Her growth as she learned more facts/truths behind the man she married made her even more formidable, and kept me riveted as to her welfare until the end.
