The Family Remains written by Lisa Jewell which was published in August 9, 2022. You can read this before The Family Remains PDF EPUB full Download at the bottom. I like Lisa Jewell, and I did read the prequel to this novel, which I loved. This book did not feel like she authored it. It was filled with weird inaccuracies, most of them technology based. For instance, when stealing photos off someone’s phone, those photos do not disappear from the phone. She also made strange and unnecessary references to characters’ races. It seemed that she was doing so to go somewhere with it, but it ended up just being a lazy way of describing and identifying which character was speaking. In addition, the book was saturated with sexual situations, especially in the first half. It seemed her driving subplot for a while, which was disappointing and an uncreative detour from her usual interesting plots. Anyone can write crassly about sex, but not everyone can weave twisty, surprising narratives that are Lisa’s talent. Super disappointing and almost made me abandon the book altogether. To add to that, the serendipitous situations were too numerous and fantastical to believe, even when you know a level of suspending disbelief is required. Overall, it just felt forced and dispassionate. This will not, however, keep me from reading more of her novels. This one just didn’t ring true.
