“Take My Hand ” is a good book that you can read online or download to read it later. Before starting the reading or downloading, here is the summary of the book that you can read. But when her first week on the job takes her down a dusty country road to a worn-down one-room cabin, she’s shocked to learn that her new patients, Erica and India, are children—just 11 and 13 years old. Neither of the Williams sisters has even kissed a boy, but they are poor and Black, and for those handling the family’s welfare benefits, that’s reason enough to have the girls on birth control. As Civil grapples with her role, she takes India, Erica, and their family into her heart. Until one day she arrives at the door to learn the unthinkable has happened, and nothing will ever be the same for any of them. Decades later, with her daughter grown and a long career in her wake, Dr. Civil Townsend is ready to retire, to find her peace, and to leave the past behind. But there are people and stories that refuse to be forgotten. That must not be forgotten.Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez

Brief Summary Take My Hand by Dolen Perkins-Valdez

This book took me on a journey through 1970s Alabama health care for young black women in regards to family planning. This did not go the way I had thought and I was heartbroken for many reasons while reading. 1) the government used these clinics to sterilize not just poor women of color, but minors. Young girls that never knew what was happening to them. 2) medical professionals taking it up on themselves to decide who should and shouldn’t have children. Making women sign sterilization forms under duress (during middle of deliveries). 3) providing unregulated drugs to women without proper knowledge. 4) Taking advantage of language barriers and back then, the fact many people of color in the poor communities couldn’t read or write.I found myself outraged because while this story isn’t real, what this story is about is very real and while it might not be as bad as it was back then, it is still done.
