This story begins with Lilith and her quest to save her town and her family. She makes an unexpected friend out of a supposed enemy and falls in love. The FMC values her work in order to save her sister and puts it above her own needs and survival. The conversations between Lilith and Vale didn’t seem “banter-y” but two people simply growing in their feeling for each other through pure companionship and work. It’s sweet and it’s there and it’s beautiful. The tension, the longing, the connection between Lilith and Vale is poetic, it’s romantic. Their story makes my heart so full and makes me wish for Vale myself. I felt like I was reading a diary with the intimate details of moments that mattered in their lives. This story is carved into a tree with a heart around it for years to remind people that love exists. About to start reading it again and again and fall in love all over again. Vale is definitely written by a woman. The LONGING. The unashamed way that he loves and expresses in just through words but his little actions. THE LETTERS. Modern day texting if you ask me. The ending made my heart burst. I was so sad and yet so relieved that these two people in a fiction world can continue to love each other in our imagination of the future. I cannot wait for the fan fiction to begin. Just under 200 pages, this fantasy romance with vampires really gave Castlevania vibes with less of the dæmon monsters and all the vampires. Also throw in Beauty and the Beast vibes with the whole roses and beast symbolism.
