Secrets of Shooting Star Lake by Susanna Strom was a pretty good read! My first title by this author, this book was a more tame take on shifter romance. The plot was interesting, well written and the character development was really good. I especially like Zane, the brooding shifter cousin. Secrets of Shooting Star Lake is a modern day shifter romance about a recently heartbroken Marit who seeks solitude at her Grandmother’s cabin that just happens to be the last piece of private property on a neighboring werewolf pack’s land. They have been trying to convince Marit’s family to give up the deed for many years so they can secure their borders, but Granny won’t have it and made Marit promise to never sell when she inherited. So there is a conflict of interest between our budding lovers, who resist the fated pull to each other for as long as they can stand. There are secrets and drama abound in this tale of fate where Marit is dragged into a world that she never even knew existed, and things seem to just get worse and worse for her with every turn of the page. The story was a bit slow for me in the pacing, and I was able to predict a few of the turns along the way. I personally think that the plot is rather tame for a werewolf/shifter romance. I was expecting a bit more of a dark theme for a shifter book, however the storyline worked, it was a more on the wholesome side and the relationship between Marit and Adam developed at a good pace, not too fast as many “fated mates” type of books do. Overall I enjoyed it.
