This latest Violet Wakefield book is really little more than a novella, but as usual it’s entertaining. Violet and her usual entourage are getting itchy feet and want to travel together to somewhere they haven’t been before, and in a burst of daring decide to go to a port city and take the first departing passenger ship to wherever it’s going. The chosen ship is bound for Oslo—not too distant, but none of the group has been there before, so it qualifies. There is another group of people of about the same age as Violet and her group on board, and Violet and her friends immediately detect some internal stress among the others. The ship is rather seedy—its resident doctor is an alcoholic, and the rest of the crew are hardly up to the standard of any “luxury liner.” Two of the members of the other group are identical twin sisters, which after adding Violet and her fraternal twin Victor, and Victor and Kate’s twin babies Vivi and Agatha, has an unusually high proportion of twins among the passenger list.
