Well, it’s been a while, but the magic of Kate and Curran is finally back in a big way! I adored the Julie offshoot series but felt a little sad that Julie didn’t have Kate and Curran and Conlan in her life full time. Loved the direction the series has taken – big stakes, big pack, big plans.I wanted Curran to be the Beast Lord again. I want a big keep and I want Conlan to grow his magic and shifter sides. I loved all the weirdos in the book. Kate and Curran have matured as people, and as parents, and my favorite, Conlan, is back. I just want a whole offshoot series on Conlan soon, I’ll never have enough of him! I cannot wait to read the rest of Julie’s arc which hopefully will end with her and Derek re-uniting with Curran and Kate somehow. It just feels wrong to read about Curran and Kate without Derek. Not that the new sidekicks are bad, but Keelan is no Derek, nor is anyone in the pack, and neither are the Shinarians. This is how a series should be managed. I often recommend that authors move the story to new protagonists, set in the same close world, but in this case, moving environment and locations and goals offers a similar reset and fresh take from the worn storylines in Atlanta. Crisp writing and interesting happenings that are the typical Ilona Andrews trademark. Just a lot of fun!
