This story was so incredibly heartbreaking. It was so painful reading both the past and present, knowing these two people were MADE for each other, and watching them fumble the relationship each time. First, I disliked how Kaela deferred to Julie in so many aspects. I feel like if she’d just opened her mouth in the very beginning and said she wanted Cam for herself – before Julie talked herself into wanting him – she could’ve waived everyone 20 years of heartaches.Second, I hate that Kaela spent 20 years alone living a very unfulfilled life, while Cam got to go on and get everything he ever wanted aside from Kaela. It almost feels as if she didn’t deserve a full life and was incomplete until Cam came back, which I logically know isn’t the message we should take from the book, but I can’t help feeling that way.
