Zoe’s my fav character because she messes w/ people as jokes (though let’s them know straightaway), like pretending she goes way back w/ strangers, challenging customers, etc. Her fam is funky w/ a wannabe fun MLM-falling mom, commie neckbeard brother, and cutesy lez bestie to do s’mores and smooch (although she disappears for 95% of the book). All the armchair activist sloganeering is annoying but suits the generation. Also irksome is this contention w/ Zoe’s mom’s water bill when an unpaid electricity bill makes more sense for the plot because, at least where I live, water bills are $20-60 vs hundreds for electricity, so seems the hurdle should’ve been bigger. Though things do become more logical.Holly is my least fav cuz she’s the stereotypical pretend-she’s-not-poor even though she loves stupid rusty things. I like her much better by pg. 100 when we find out all the bad stuff she’s done that makes her interesting, and her crush named Orlando is exactly my type. Dustin, the boy on the cover, is a crush most of the other girls have which doesn’t sound realistic at all. Girls wouldn’t incessantly swoon to his GF how lucky she is IRL, saying it’s hot how godly he is. It’s just too 2D, vapid bubblegum typecasting.
