Identical twin sisters, who were once extremely close, and worked as child actresses have become estranged. Sam, turned to a life of drugs and alcohol, squandering her acting money. Elli had followed a traditional path: college, marriage, and saving. Years of failing at rehab (paid for by her sister) and regressing further into addiction have led to the breakdown of their relationship. They haven’t spoken for over a year.Suddenly, Sam’s parents call asking for help babysitting baby Charlotte while Elli is away, saying they’re too old for this but Sam is thinking: ‘Wait, Elli has a daughter?’. As her parents placidly stand by, Sam tries to find out where Elli is and where this little girl came from (don’t adoptions take a long time?). Her parents seem intentionally blind to the situation and to Sam’s concerns that Elli may have gotten mixed up with a cult. The more Sam probes, the more they blame her past substance abuse issues.
