Alessandro Benetti is one extremely intense man, that comes with the responsibility of being the head of the Chicago mafia but also because he has more on his plate. In the first book, most of the time I got the impression he was just plain ruthless until forced to give in a bit. But in this book we see an entirely different side altogether, one that I like much better too. I totally love how he has no control over his feelings for Lily. Lily used to be a wallflower but is now a gutsy young woman, I love her sassy mouth and how she stands up for what and who she believes in. She has a strong moral compass that gets tricky being caught in the middle of a mafia web. After surviving a terrible trauma she truly knows what a battle entails. I particularly like how she stands up to Sandro, right from the beginning! Alessandro describes Lily as a warrior and that is the perfect description for her, a much quieter warrior than say Xena, but just as effective.
