It’s a fantasy romance with some suspense and an enemies-to-lovers trope. I’m still not entirely sure I can even come close to doing this story justice, but here goes. Rebecca Yarros is one of my go-to authors. She could write an encyclopedia, and I’d buy it and set aside an entire day (or more) to devote all of my time to reading it. I love her writing that much. And while I haven’t been a big fantasy reader in the past, she’s among a growing number of favorite Entangled Publishing authors who have convinced me to step outside my usual genres, and I have loved them for it. Okay, back to Fourth Wing. It’s what I’d consider an epic fantasy romance, so there’s an incredible amount of world-building in this story, and it is very detailed (down to the map included). Yet interspersed amongst the world-building is the fast-paced, brutal action and suspense, all working together to keep you engaged and invested in the story as well as the budding romance. Violet is considered weak by her society’s standards, and Xaden is regarded as an outcast. But in this world, nothing is truly as it seems. The heroes aren’t who you think they are, and the same can be said of the villains as well as the dragons. It’s full of magic, intrigue (including some political intrigue), action, and danger, with a side of romance and a dash of spice. This isn’t a story you’ll want to put down, so consider yourself warned (and did I mention it’s nearly 500 pages??). I devoured it in less than two days but literally did nothing else during that time except make sure my kids stayed alive. They are all teens and can thankfully handle feeding themselves, so no children were harmed or neglected during the reading of this fantastic book.

Brief Summary of the Book

Fourth Wing was epic, breathtaking and consumed my every thought. This is easily one of my top favorite books, ever. This book had me screaming from excitement, gasping from betrayal, and crying all the happy and sad tears. Foreshadowing of what was to come was secretly laced into the pages, leaving us with the feeling of dread that was all consuming. The betrayals cut deep. The friendships were beautiful. The enemies to lovers romance was a slow burn that was passionate and steamy. And the battles were intense and epic. If you love romantasy, you definitely need this one on your tbr! Violet Sorrengail is one of my favorite heroines. She was smart, cunning and brave. She was so easy to connect to and feel all of her emotions. She thought she was destined to enter the Scribe Quadrant, but her mother changed her future. As the commanding general, her mother forced Violet to go to the Basgiath War College. And there she would either survive and become a dragon rider or die trying like countless others. The trials she went through were gutting, and I found myself cheering out loud for her every step of the way! Violet is a heroine that you can respect and love!
