There are many alternative versions of the legends about the figures associated with the preliminaries, the course, and the aftermath of the Trojan War. Jennifer Saint has read them all, and has made her own selections from them to tell a story in elaborate detail. She is persuasive in imagining the feelings of the three women who narrate the alternating chapters: Elektra, Clytemnestra and Cassandra There are also excellent portraits of Agamemnon and Aegisthus. The author seems to have invented one Giorgios, who married Elektra, but about whom I could find nothing on the internet.Here is the very barest outline of the story of the three women:Agamemnon, King of Mycenae, was married to Clytemnestra. He was preparing to sail for Troy to bring back Clytemnestra’s sister Helen who had absconded with Paris. But Agamemnon had offended the goddess Artemis, and she saw to it that there was no wind to enable his fleet to sail.
