It’s a closed door romance featuring Andie, a grieving ICU nurse and new guardian of her preteen brother, and Mitch, an alphahole hockey defenseman with a major attitude problem and enough emotional baggage to overflow his Tesla. This book tackled topics like parental death, imprisonment, abandonment, therapy, and healing from trauma in a beautiful way and the best part was probably the fact that there was NO third act breakup. If you’re looking for a clean romance that will probably make you cry, this is for you.

Brief Summary of the Book

Andie & Mitch come from different backgrounds, but they both know about struggling with the pain of loss – as does Andie’s younger brother. While assisting a kids’ hockey team, Mitch connects with Noah in their anger management difficulties. And then – in a fun meet cute – with Andie because of it. I really enjoyed how Mitch & Noah help each other learn to deal (without making Noah precocious). And how Andie & Mitch tussle with each other. The relationship development between them isn’t totally believable, but the characters themselves are, & it’s well done enough that it never bumped me out of the story & succeeds in being enjoyable to the happy end! Looking forward to book 2.
