Crosley is a canny, gifted humorist who brings an up-to-the-minute sensibility about how some urban singles live and love. I found myself highlighting many pithy observations along the way, wanting to share them with others. Problem is, the novel took a random and ill-considered turn to the fantastical, contrary to the very realistic elements here. Makes me wonder if the author settled on this unlikely device as a way to link several short stories and anecdotes together. Despite the talented writing, the whole doesn’t outweigh the parts.
