Almost There by Farrah Rochon  Book Review

“Almost There” is a good book that you can read online or download to read it later. Before starting the reading or downloading, here is the summary of the book that you can read.  Sometimes life in the Big Easy is tough. No one knows that better than Tiana, though she also believes that hard work can go a long way. But when the notorious Dr. Facilier backs her into a corner, she has no choice but to accept an offer that will alter the course of her life in an instant. Soon Tiana finds herself in a new reality where all her deepest desires are realized: she finally gets her restaurant, her friends are safe and sound, and most miraculous of all, her beloved father is still alive. She’s got everything she’s ever wanted. But after a while, her hometown grows increasingly eerie, with new threats cropping up in unlikely places. Navigating through this strange new New Orleans, Tiana must work alongside Naveen and Charlotte to set things right―or risk losing everything she holds dear.Almost There by Farrah Rochon

Brief Summary Almost There by Farrah Rochon

I liked how the characters were fleshed out. I was pleased when Tiana finally tells Lottie that her life is very different, not because of the money, but because of the color of her skin. I thought this was a great and greatly needed scene to have in the book. Lottie could not have grown as a character without it. Anyone who has seen the movie or read the book knows that Tiana is worth ten of Lottie and doesn’t have what she deserves just because she’s Black. (I noticed, rewatching the movie, how Disney side stepped Eudora and young Tiana entering the trolley car and having to go to the back.) Lottie’s absolute obliviousness is painful to observe, and more painful to admit that many of us white people have acted that way for years. I like to see these things addressed in books.
