Reading about Lucy’s designs made me want to wear the gorgeous gowns she creates! The dresses from that era were so beautiful, and the descriptions used within this story felt true to life. Like, I could imagine skimming my fingers along the fabrics, wearing tulle and taffeta. I also found it interesting that some of the biases Lucy faces in the late 1800s can at times be the same biases women face today. There is often a heavy choice made between career vs. family, and Lucy is often encouraged to play down what she wants to achieve in life in order to put her family first, with no pressure placed on any male counterparts to provide that same kind of duty. Decades have gone by, but that same stigma is there.
