This is a powerful story, one that intruiged me and I couldn’t move before I knew how Dracula meet his demise in the hands of his wife Constanta. We all know who Dracula is but in this novella we get to see Dracula through his bride Constanta’s eyes. Her adoration for Dracula despite his nauseating behaviour haunts the pages throughout the novella. She gives us a fresh view of the familiar vampire. We get to see a narcissist who wants control at the cost of everyone else’s life and joy. In this story Gibson puts Dracula in a poly marriage where everyone take great pleasure in one another. This vampire however is not your sexy broody kind of vampire. No, this vampire is manipulative, controlling and emotionally abusive. Some descriptions made me gasp for air because they felt so real. It was like the characters came alive though the pages. The characters are elegante and savage. I was mesmerized by Gibson’s lyrical, dreamy and rich prose from the very first sentence.
