When We Were Friends by Holly Bourne Book Review

“When We Were Friends ” is a good book that you can read online or download to read it later. Before starting the reading or downloading, here is the summary of the book that you can read. From the day they first meet as teenagers, Fern and Jessica are best friends. Despite their differences, they are there for each other throughout everything, navigating the difficulties of growing up and fitting in. That is, until Jessica crosses a line that Fern can’t forgive. But now, more than ten years later, Jessica has unexpectedly reappeared in Fern’s life. A lot has changed for them both—but can their relationship be different now that they are older? Is it possible for either of them to rewrite the roles they’ve been cast in? Or will their shared history ultimately be doomed to repeat itself again? Set between the present day and the early ’00s, When We Were Friends is a blisteringly funny and devastating novel: both a joyful celebration of female friendship and a razor-sharp look at the damage we can all cause to those we claim to love the most.

Brief When We Were Friends by Holly Bourne

Fern and Jessica were bffs until they weren’t -and the reason behind their split slowly spools out. Fern’s struggled with her mental health since she was a teen and now, at 31, she’s got things mostly under control. And then Jessica reappears in her life, bringing back both good memories and her anxiety. This swings between their teen years and the present, when they are renewing their relationship. Things have changed for both of them-Fern lives with Ben (great guy) and Jessica is mom to a gorgeous little girl-but Fern remains guarded. Much of their trouble over the years is because of guys, some of whom are horrible (more than horrible). If I have a quibble, it’s that too much time is spent on their years at university and that the novel is just a tad too long for the payoff. That said, Bourne is a good storyteller and she’s especially adept with portraits of young women (I’ll never look at fairy wings the same way). I appreciated the sensitive incorporation of Fern’s challenges
