In the beginning Hugh and his wife had three children and when the Knight brothers needed a home, they opened their home to them. Their mother had passed and their father was in prison for killing her. In a drunken rage he pushed her down the stairs. Hugh became the father they never had. They grew up in his household. Em the youngest daughter always had a crush on the oldest brother 10 years her senior. Knightly as he was called looked after the girls as he would a sister. They all were very close and grew up in a great home. And then tragedy struck when Hugh’s wife was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease. She had a terrible time until she could take it no more and she took her own life. This story has this disease as a focal point in the story. It is sad that anyone has this issue but the story does a great job of educating us all on what it is all about. It is not a depressing story at all, it is what it is and people have it and we all need to be aware and have compassion. The disease can be passed from parent to child. So the three children live with the fact that they could possibly be diagnosed just like their mother.
