At first Kate is glad to have some support in this strange city, but gradually Amy’s presence becomes more and more stifling – it just seems so hard to get away from her. And every time Kate tries, something terrible happens.

Kate has moved to Cardiff to pursue her dream – a degree in music. She moves in with Amy and at first all goes well with her new landlady. Gradually though, things spiral out of her control.This is a gripping psychological thriller but Angela Lester never neglects the human aspect. The characters are convincing and I found the exploration of Kate’s past, in particular her childhood, and descriptions of the world she is now moving in, fascinating and involving. Gradually, though, the sense of fear and alienation heightens, leading to a terrifying twist at the end I certainly wasn’t expecting.
