I usually look to make sure I am not buying a stretched out short story so I don’t know it slipped through. That said, this was an interesting book, sort of old fashioned like a Mary Shelley novel. Something about it make me feel like I was reading something that was written in the 19th century. If DeWitt had described gas light streetlamps, I wouldn’t have been surprised. Quite unique and very stark in its presentation. I had more than a couple of problems with the plot, but because this was such a short book I can understand. Character development, too. Not good. One thought consumed my thoughts though out and this is a SPOILER ALERT. Why didn’t these caring, loving parents allow their 6 yr old to stay in their room with them? Why? I can’t help but believe the monster would never have been able to do what he did to the child.
