She brings such life into her characters. They always seem so “REAL “.
I am going to disagree with one reader’s post that said this was a totally unbelievable story as this could never happen in real life….that the character was to smart and articulate to be mistaken for someone who was mentally challenged (my words not hers). I have also worked with challenged people. Places like Willowbrook existed in many states. In North Dakota there was one …… I think ? it could have been in Grand Forks…Anyway it was shut down because of abusive conditions…..landmark case as it changed a lot of how “consumers “were treated and thought of. Anyway, the premise of the story resonated with me and my experiences. I think Wiseman did her research on this public disgrace and I think she did a fabulous job in the description of the conditions as well as the horror and fear the characters went through.
