Catherine Swift is a best selling romance author, who has had 3 divorces. She is about to get married again, and this time to one of her previous husbands, Andrew. She brings her daughter from her marriage with Andrew, Adeline, and her daughter from her marriage to Rob Dunn, Cassie, to her beautiful home in Corfu for the wedding, where she and Andrew break the news about getting remarried. What they thought would be great news is quite the opposite. Adeline has been estranged from Catherine since Catherine divorced Andrew and married Rob Dunn, immediately getting pregnant with Cassie and then sending Adeline away to live with her father instead of staying in Corfu with Catherine and her new family. Years of resentment have put a strain on Adeline and Cassie’s relationship. They were so close when Cassie was little, but now they barely know each other. Cassie is upset because she always believed what her mother told her, that her mother’s true love was her dad, Rob Dunn, and she can’t understand why Catherine is getting remarried to Andrew, and starts to wonder if she was a mistake. As secrets unravel, the truth about Rob Dunn comes out, and they all learn he was far from a good husband and dad. He died when Cassie was still very young, so all she has been told about her dad turned out to be lies. Adeline realizes that her mother wasn’t trying to get rid of her, but rather was trying to protect her from Rob Dunn. As both girls adjust to learning their pasts weren’t at all what they thought they were, they also both find romance. Cassie realizes she is in love with her best friend, and roommate, Oliver. She has been searching for the perfect love, like the one she had thought her parents had, when the perfect man has been by her side all along. Adeline reconnects with an old childhood friend from Corfu, Stefanos. She has been dating men she knew she would not get too attached to, trying to protect herself from getting hurt again, like she was when Catherine sent her away. She starts having feelings she has never experienced before with Stefanos, and realizes maybe she does need to take a risk and give love a try. As both Adeline and Cassie reconnect with their mom and learn their lives are quite different than they had always thought they were, they both also open up their hearts to try to find their own true loves.

Brief Summary of the Book

The Island Villa is another amazing novel by the extremely talented author, Sarah Morgan. This is a story of how the secrets of the past can influence the relationships and beliefs of the present. Catherine Swift is a celebrated romance novelist but her marriage record and relationships with her daughters is not as sunny and bright. She was basically abandoned as a child, sent away to school and all but forgotten. She had a wonderful imagination that helped her to survive and thus began her illustrious career. She met her first husband while working in a coffee shop, after they married he convinced her to follow her dream of becoming a writer. She stays home writing and raising her beautiful daughter. They have an ideal life until fame happens and her marriage begins to fail. While separated from her first husband, she has a whirlwind affair in which she becomes pregnant and marries husband number two. She gives birth to another beautiful daughter but life isn’t always as it appears. She sends her first daughter back to her father causing a rift in the relationship with her daughter. After her second husband dies in a freak accident, she brings her second daughter up with stories of the love she shared with her father. A third marriage was really insignificant and doesn’t last but now she is marrying for a fourth time and wants both her daughters to attend but doesn’t reveal who the groom is. Adeline doesn’t want to witness another train wreck of a marriage for her mother whom she has little to do with but her father guilts her in to going. She reluctantly agrees and when she arrives, she is still dealing with the issues from her childhood and doesn’t let anyone get close until secrets of the past are revealed that alter her entire perception of her childhood. Cassie is always sunshine and love, looking for a love like her parents had. Her best friend and roommate, Oliver, convinces her to try and rebuild her relationship with her half-sister. He has always been there for all of her struggles and when new secrets about the past throw her life into turmoil, she realizes that love isn’t always big and in your face. The story that follows is filled with some dark issues, family problems, old friends and new connections. Love, trust and truth can help overcome most problems as long as you face them together. This is a beautifully written story that has all the feels and will have you reaching for the tissue box.
