I’ve read them all (I’ve also read all of Charles Todd’s Ian Rutledge series of stories), and had pre-ordered this novel when I heard it was going to be available.Every Charles Todd novel is fantastic. They are extremely good stories, well told. The characters and characterizations a believable. Their motivations and actions are understandable and mirror real life, and Todd’s dialog puts us in the middle of their lives and the story they’re telling us. The plots are unique and original–not trite melodrama, and not routine mysteries.In “The Cliff’s Edge,” former Army nursing sister, Bess Crawford, is readjusting to life back in Somerset after the end of WWI. A close family friend asks if she’ll travel to Yorkshire to help a Dowager Duchess recuperate from impending surgery. The surgery and recovery having gone well, Lady Beatrice, asks Bess to travel further into Yorkshire to help a family in an undisclosed emergency.
