He’s known his beleaguered boss, Detective Inspector Stephanie Flynn for years as he has his nearest neighbour, full-time shepherd/part-time dog sitter, Victoria.And then there’s Estelle Doyle. Dark and dangerous and sexy as hell. It’s true the caustic pathologist has never walked down the sunny side of the street, but has she gone too far this time? Shot twice in the head, her father’s murder appears to be an open and shut case. All hail to one of my absolute favorite character duos: Tilly and Poe!! I became an instant fan of the series when I read the first book back in 2019, and it’s a series that hasn’t let me down yet. Getting to pick up another sequel truly feels like Christmas having arrived early, and I can never seem to resist the temptation for long once a copy appears on my kindle. This was no different with The Botanist, and while I tried to stay away to make the wait for the next one a little shorter, in the end resistance was futile. Book five starts a little different with a visit to Japan and a TV show in London… But do not worry, our favorite character duo will appear soon enough to steal the show. As soon as they showed up, I knew that this was going to be another 5 star read for me. I know that I’m a bit biased when it comes to this series, but the banter between Tilly and Poe as well as the other characters is absolutely brilliant, and it had me laughing out loud more than once. The banter makes for such a nice contrast with the more serious topics and the two murder cases… And it’s part of the reason why this series stands out for me.
