Brief Our Last Days in Barcelona by Chanel Cleeton

When Beatriz goes MIA in Barcelona, Spain, Isabel journeys to retrieve her errant sibling, in the process stumbling upon a host of family secrets interwoven with Spanish and Cuban history. While I think Cleeton is a master and weaving past and present Perez family history, and I enjoyed reading this book, I have a minor complaint. There are three story arcs involving Isabel, her mother Alicia, and Rosa, Alicia’s cousin. The narrative rotates between the three women, and at times, the story lines blurred together and confused me. I had to stop reading often to straighten them out. I also feel that there was too much talk that droned on for many pages and not enough action. As I read, I wished there was a family tree; lo and behold, there is, at the end of the book.
