On a Night of a Thousand Stars Book Review

“On a Night of a Thousand Stars” is a good book that you can read online or download to read it later. Before starting the reading or downloading, here is the summary of the book that you can read. All seems perfect in the Larreas’ world—until an unexpected party guest from Santiago’s university days shakes his usually unflappable demeanor. The woman’s cryptic comments spark Paloma’s curiosity about her father’s past, of which she knows little. When the family travels to Buenos Aires for Santiago’s UN ambassadorial appointment, Paloma is determined to learn more about his life in the years leading up to the military dictatorship of 1976. With the help of a local university student, Franco Bonetti, an activist member of H.I.J.O.S.—a group whose members are the children of the desaparecidos, or the “disappeared,” men and women who were forcibly disappeared by the state during Argentina’s “Dirty War”—Paloma unleashes a chain of events that not only leads her to question her family and her identity, but also puts her life in danger. In compelling fashion, On a Night of a Thousand Stars speaks to relationships, morality, and identity during a brutal period in Argentinian history, and the understanding—and redemption—people crave in the face of tragedy. On a Night of a Thousand Stars by Andrea Yaryura Clark

Brief Summary On a Night of a Thousand Stars by Andrea Yaryura Clark

First, this novel taught me so much about Argentina’s history and “Los Desaparecidos,” the victims of a government campaign against suspected dissidents and subversives – horrific and poignant and awful beyond measure. The dark historical account made for an interesting contrast to protagonist Paloma’s privileged upbringing and served as a vivid reminder that governments do unspeakable things, yet people somehow have to come to terms with their own country’s history and carry on.Next, this book was quite entertaining, with an action-packed plot and well-crafted balance between past events and the narrator’s present day. Paloma and other characters occasionally demonstrated a dry, understated sense of humor which made the characters more real and human. The father-daughter relationship, and the ensuing tensions between Paloma and her parents, were quite poignant. A lot happens in this book, yet I never felt confused or overwhelmed as to what was going on, thanks to the steady pacing. The book doesn’t arrive at any easy answers, but I was satisfied with the level of closure I felt with regard to the various plot lines.
