I didn’t have many expectations going into Future Skinny and that’s a good thing. This book defies anything my brain could have come up with. From the first words, the action is vehemently visceral, non-stop nuts, utterly unique, and superbly crafted. The main character is one for the ages, a man chained to his morals but, man…his worldview is as tightly twisted as his claim to fame. The characters are built up just enough to leave the fat off the bone and keep the story moving forward at 120 miles per hour. This book is a rare combination of high- and low-brow that makes me wonder if Denis Johnson and Chuck Palahniuk had a 200-page, quaalude-addicted lovechild. Painstakingly fresh and disturbingly approachable, do your unmelted brain a favor and pick up Future Skinny.
