Crosby and Frances- sisters who are both hiding their career struggles. Frances, an actress who has never gotten a speaking part in a film, believes her younger sister Crosby, who has had a hit song and a hot novel, has it all. Yes, Crosby has it all- all the bills and she’s broke so when Frances, who has been working as a chef to a former TV icon, passes her name along as a co-writer for the “autobiography” of an aging pop star, she grabs it. These two don’t really like each other, with resentment that dates to their teen years in particular. The dark assault that colors their relationship doesn’t really fit with the rest of the story in a way I can’t quite put my finger on. That said, this is an entertaining look at the other side of Hollywood. It’s also a portrait of aging women – not just Crosby and Frances but all the other characters. And there’s a an unlikely romance.
