Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World Book Review

“Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World ” is a good book that you can read online or download to read it later. Before starting the reading or downloading, here is the summary of the book that you can read. Benjamin Alire Sáenz was born in 1954 in his grandmother’s house in Old Picacho, a small farming village in the outskirts of Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1954. He was the fourth of seven children and was raised on a small farm near Mesilla Park. Later, when the family lost the farm, his father went back to his former occupation—being a cement finisher. His mother worked as a cleaning woman and a factory worker. During his youth, he worked at various jobs—painting apartments, roofing houses, picking onions, and working for a janitorial service. He graduated from high school in 1972, and went on to college and became something of a world traveler. He studied philosophy and theology in Europe for four years and spent a summer in Tanzania. He eventually became a writer and professor and moved back to the border—the only place where he feels he truly belongs. He is an associate professor in the MFA creative writing program at the University of Texas at El Paso, the only bilingual creative writing program in the country.Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Saenz

Brief Summary Aristotle and Dante Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Saenz

That said, some moments of the book felt too easy. As though the universe aligned to surround Ari with people like him…or people who were related to people like him. With events that happen in regards to the 1980s, even until the very end…as though Saenz wishes this to be the world that had been. A world that cared so much about LGBT people, even though historically, this wasn’t always true. Hell, it’s the world I wish had existed in the 1980s in regards to LGBT People. Regardless of this, including instances of helping people out, The reader should be aware that there is language in this book that may not be to peoples liking, with words and worldviews that, while today seem crass and cancel-worthy, were appropriate for the 1980s (keep in mind that the books ARE in the 1980s, guys. Believe me, some of the language in regards to Gay people and Trans people were like daggers, but as a historian, I understand the context.) The amount of gay people Ari meets in this book are, in my opinion, surprisingly high for such a small locale. Then again, I digress, that’s just me thinking it’s unrealistic even though I know it isnt.
